Getting comfortable with Chayt
This guide follows the real screens in the app: desktop sidebar, mobile tab bar, Discovery, bot cards, chat, the three-dot menu, Conversation Memory, Chat Style, All Conversations, ratings, Create Character, Credits, Models, and Settings.
2. Start from Discovery
Discovery is where public character cards appear. Use search when you know a name or theme, sort when you want a different feed order, and filters when you want specific bot genders or tags.
- Open Discovery from the sidebar or mobile bottom tab.
- Use search, sort, gender filters, quick tags, and feed tabs like For You, Trending now, and Recent.
- Open a public bot card that looks interesting.
- Read the bot profile, personality, description, tags, and reviews.
- Scroll down to the Chat with Character button, then start the chat.
3. Send messages and use the three-dot menu
In chat, the message box is at the bottom. Type your message, then press the send arrow. While the bot is replying, the send button may switch into a stop button so you can cancel generation.
- Use the attachment icon if image upload is available for that chat.
- Use the three-dot button in the chat top bar for conversation actions.
- Choose New Chat to start a separate thread with the same bot.
- Choose Chat Style to change the model used by that conversation.
- Choose Conversation Memory to save or summarize long-term context.
- Choose All Conversations to switch between saved threads for that bot.
4. Use Chat Style and Conversation Memory
Chat Style controls how replies are generated for the current conversation. Conversation Memory controls what long-term notes the bot should keep using for this specific chat.
Chat Style
- Free: the default model path.
- Provider models: hosted models shown in the model list when available.
- Custom: your saved API provider settings from Settings.
Conversation Memory
- Summarize Chat: creates a compact memory from the conversation.
- Summarize Pinned Memory Only: rewrites pinned messages into shorter pinned memory notes.
- Save Memory: saves manual edits.
- Clear Memory: removes saved memory for that conversation.
- Hide: closes the memory panel.
5. Rate bots, switch threads, and delete chats
Ratings help other users understand whether a character is worth trying. Deleting is for removing a conversation you no longer want saved.
- Open a bot detail page to read existing reviews and rating context.
- Inside chat, open the three-dot menu and choose Rate Bot when you want to leave feedback.
- Use All Conversations to browse older threads for the same bot.
- Use Delete Chat from the three-dot menu to remove the current thread after confirming.
- Use Recent Chats on mobile or the sidebar recent list on PC to jump back into conversations quickly.
6. Set up your profile
Open Settings, then look for Chat Identity. Your profile is not just decoration. The nickname, personality, and conversation style fields help characters address you correctly and respond in a way that feels less generic.
- Nickname: what characters call you, like Alex, Ren, Captain, or Princess.
- Personality: a few traits, such as shy, playful, calm, dramatic, protective, or sarcastic.
- Conversation style: how you like replies, such as short messages, slow-burn roleplay, cozy talk, or detailed scenes.
7. Create a character in layers
Tap + Create on desktop or the create button on mobile. Start with the basics before touching advanced settings. Name, description, personality, first message, and conversation style do most of the work. The generation settings are there when you want to fine-tune length, variety, and repetition.
- Write the character name and a clear one-paragraph description.
- Add a first message that shows the scene instead of explaining it.
- Use Memory for facts the character should remember.
- Use Extra Rules only for important boundaries or habits.
8. Understand Credits
Credits explains the user's balance and the app features tied to credits or plans. Use it when you want to check available balance, bonuses, rewards, Chayt+ information, or purchase options.
- Open Credits from the PC sidebar or the mobile bottom tab.
- Check the current credit balance before long chat sessions.
- Read plan or reward panels before claiming or buying anything.
- Return to chat after the balance or plan is handled.
9. Use Bring Your Own AI only when you need it
The default model works without API keys. Bring Your Own AI is for people who already have a custom provider or proxy. Choose a provider, then fill in the API key, base URL, and model ID that provider expects.
- Use Custom when you have an OpenAI-compatible proxy.
- Paste the proxy API key only if your provider requires one.
- Enter the exact model ID from that provider.
If you do not have a provider ready, leave this section off.
10. Check Models when replies feel off
The Models page compares the usable AI options for chats. Use it when you want to understand which model is better for fast replies, richer roleplay, or custom provider setups.
- Open Models from the sidebar or mobile bottom tab.
- Search by provider or model name if you already know what you want.
- Open a model profile to read comments and leave a rating after using it.
11. Use Settings as your control room
Settings holds account controls, safety choices, gender, Chat Identity, shortcuts, interests, model provider settings, visual preferences, and other app behavior.
- Use Gender and NSFW visibility before browsing or chatting.
- Keep Chat Identity filled in so bots know how to address you.
- Scroll further down for discovery interests, providers, and interface options.
